Our Story

Highland Community Center began as Highland Elementary School, serving African American students during segregation. Today, we welcome all residents of Mount Gilead and surrounding communities for fellowship and community activities.

The Campaign

We're revitalizing Highland Community Center with four essential improvements:

  • ✓ Roof replacement on classroom building (Completed March 2025!)

  • ⬜ Air conditioning installation in gymnasium for year-round use

  • ⬜ New playground equipment for community children

  • ⬜ Bathroom renovations in classroom building

The good news is that we replaced the roof during our silent campaign at the beginning of the year! Now, we have three more goals to go!

Why Support Highland?

Highland hosts vital community programs, including:

  • Annual May Day Celebration

  • Juneteenth Celebration

  • Black History Month Program

  • Christmas Banquet & Fashion Show

  • Senior citizens' programs

  • Youth Programs

  • Town Council Meetings

  • Educational classes through Montgomery Community College
